Flooding the Engine
Flooding the engine is when too much fuel is let through the choke into the carburettor. This can happen when your car’s choke needs adjusting. Most modern cars use fuel injection to control the fuel/air mix to start the engine, but engine flooding can happen to older cars with carburettors, particularly on cold mornings.

Manifold
The intake manifold distributes the fuel-air mixture to the cylinders and the exhaust manifold transfers exhaust out the rear of your car. Cracking and faulty gaskets through every day wear and tear can damage manifolds.

Intake Manifold
The intake manifold is a series of tubes that distribute air and fuel to the cylinder head from the carburettor or fuel injector. If you have a leak in your intake manifold, the air/fuel mix can become lopsided and the internal combustion operates less efficiently. A poor idle or sluggish acceleration is an indicator of a leaky intake manifold.
