Which of Our Vehicle Services is Right for You? | Midas

Midas Car Care Tips

So, the time has come for your regular vehicle service, and you’re wondering which of our offers you should go for. Getting the right service at the right time is crucial to the livelihood of your vehicle, and we believe in delivering exactly what you need.

You may be scratching your head about whether to go for a specialised or standard service, and which options to choose within those ranges, but not to worry! We’re going to break down what each service does, how they differ, and which one you should choose for your car.

The Standard Vehicle Services

This range is for the average car on the road; non-diesel, non-European, and getting a lot of use as a family or commuter car. Within the standard category you can choose a Basic, Smart or Premium service, and each one builds on the previous option. Let’s take a look.

The Basic Service

This is our baseline service, and we recommend it as a check-up between your vehicle’s full services to make sure it’s running happily. At $159.99 it’s also our cheapest service, so if you’re really in a bind but need to keep your wheels turning, this is the one to choose.

As part of this service we check up on all of your under-bonnet fluids – coolant, transmission fluid, wiper water – and top them up where necessary. While we’ve got the hood up, we also replace your engine oil (up to 4.5L) and replace the oil filter. These are both crucial to keeping your engine in good shape, as contaminated oil can destroy the internal workings of a combustion engine very easily.

Finally, we lubricate your doors and chassis (when it's accessible), reset any maintenance lights making themselves known on your dashboard, and re-pump your tyres (which improves your fuel efficiency).

The Smart Service

As a step up from the Basic, this is our most highly recommended service, making it ideal as your six-monthly or annual choice. We do everything from the Basic service and add in a Peace of Mind vehicle inspection; a 33-point visual inspection of your car.

By checking over your entire vehicle during the service, we can warn you about any possible malfunctions that could make themselves known before your next service. We can also catch any problems that aren’t obvious, and suggest appropriate repairs, which could save your vehicle a lot of damage in the long run.

The Premium Service

Finally, we offer a comprehensive Premium service. If you’ve left a little too much time between services, or if you’re particularly enthusiastic about looking after your vehicle, look no further than this.

On top of performing the Smart service, we also perform an oil flush and replacement to completely clean your engine of any contaminants, rotate your tyres to re-distribute the wear, and perform an engine system scan to check for any anomalies.

The Specialised Vehicle Services

If you drive a diesel car, a European marquee or a late model car with a lot of miles on the odometer, then a specialised service is necessary for you. These are specifically designed to deliver essential maintenance treatments to specialty cars.

The Diesel Service

For anyone driving a diesel car, van, ute or SUV, this service accomplishes all of the standard aspects of a service while accommodating a diesel engine. The only change from the Standard service is the addition of a diesel fuel filter check, as well as the draining of water from the fuel separator.

If you drive a diesel vehicle, it’s essential to choose this service rather than a standard service, as diesel engines require a different approach to normal petrol. The fuel separator and filter are necessary to remove water and particulates from diesel fuel, in which they are more commonly found, so that they don’t reach the engine. If these components are neglected, you’ll find your car will give up the ghost far quicker.

The Euro Service

For the European marquee, this caters to brands like Audi, Volkswagen, Fiat, Mercedes-Benz and more. European vehicles use different systems for their engine management, as well as synthetic oil, to name a few differences. It’s crucial to choose this service for a European car to get the most for your money, and to prevent fouling up the system with the wrong kind of fuel additive.

The Logbook Service

Finally, we offer this service to any late model vehicles with specialty needs. If you’re the proud owner of a brand-new Camaro, this one is for you. We perform all of the services featured in the Standard series, but we use the manufacturer’s logbook to identify specialty needs and cater to them as well. For example, a Tesla Model S engine and drivetrain management system has various needs specific to the car, and we recalibrate this system during the service (according to the specifications outlined in the logbook).
